What Led to the New
US 23 I-71 Feasibility Study
This overview explains how the current proposal for a US 23 I-71 bypass came about. It outlines ODOT’s earlier studies, which found that improving the existing US 23 corridor was the most effective and affordable option for connecting Toledo and Columbus. Despite those findings, state lawmakers later required ODOT and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission to study new bypass routes, leading to the project now under review. The summary also notes that many local officials in Delaware, Marion, and Morrow Counties have raised concerns about the bypass. This background helps readers understand why the project is being studied again and how it differs from ODOT’s original recommendations.
Route 23 Connect
Study
The Route 23 Connect Study focuses on identifying improvements between I-270 and Waldo to ensure safer, more efficient travel and better travel time reliability for through traffic. The findings will guide an action plan outlining specific project concepts of varying size and scope.
